It's the second to last day of the AAC08 workshop and DISASTER STRUCK!
For the first time ever this week, there were wisps of clouds in the sky!
I guess you just can't have 5 straight days of perfect weather with clear, blue sky with not a cloud anywhere. I'm so disappointed!
:)
Anyway, the morning's plenary session was the presentations by the winners of the students poster competition in each of the Working Group. The winners are:
WG1: Jens Osterhoff (Max-Planck Inst. Quantum Optics group). "Stable electron acceleration in a steady-state-flow gas cell".
WG2: Marwan Rihaoui (Northern Illinois U.). "Beam dynamics simulation of transverse-to-longitudinal emittance exchange proof-of-principle experiment at the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator".
WG3: Feng Gao (Argonne/Illinois Inst. of Tech.). "7.8 GHz dielectric-loaded high power generation and extraction".
WG4: Andrey Knyazik (UCLA). "Status of UCLA helical inverse free-electron laser".
WG5: Ian Blumenfeld (SLAC). "Scalings in a PWFA".
WG6: Eric Montgomery (U. of Maryland). Towards a robust, efficient dispenser photocathode - the effect of recesiation on quantum efficiency".
They all won $300 cash price generously donated by Julian Bergoz of Bergoz Instrumentation.
