Quantum critically is one of the most important principle in condensed matter physics (high-Tc superconductors, for example, exhibits properties that indicate that its phase is close to such criticality). To mark last year's World Year of Physics 2005, Piers Coleman and Andrew Schofield wrote a summary of Einstein's contribution to the physics of solids, from the point of view of his contribution to quantum criticality.
