A new news report seems to indicate that dark energy was present in our universe at least as far back as 9 billion years ago. That makes it, what, our great, great, great, great.... granddaddy?
Edit: there's also a report in Nature's daily news update. However, I believe this is available for free only for a limited time, so read it now while you can.
