A quote from the article"But microwaves aren't affected by magnetism, and the radiation that comes from space is too weak to damage anything here"Microwaves are E&M waves, therefore they ARE affected by magnetism, that's just a consequence of the superposition principle. Solar radiation can be damaging, e.g. skin cancer, solar flares messing up electronics, etc.
